Are we just stupid bloody Americans?
Everyday we walk the earth we seem to be in a constant barrage of media hype. Sadly it seems that each of us is no more than a consumer in this country and it is getting old. America home of the brave or are we just home to the most silly and impulse shopping ever? Once we where a nation that did more than shop. Must we hearken all the way back to the sixties to see our moral compass alive and well. We fought for equal rights of women, of African Americans of a difference of opinion and the freedom to have such. It is disappointing to see that we are such consumerists that the most important thing to our nature is simply buying what we want. Since we are soon turning to becoming a third world country perhaps we should think about this. After all it is those same consumers who really don't have the money to be doing such spending. We give up the plastic we are in debt to our ears and yet, we shop and shop and we expect to find some happiness in this? No, in the end your toy may accommodate your 'glee' for a moment but then you won't be satisfied until we get the next upgrade. I am not religious and I am not spouting off to save your soul, I am just saying don't you want more meaning in your life. God knows I do. What is your thought?

Commenting, interaction always good, I see my stats say you are reading but... do could you share a thought on this?
ReplyDeletePeople don't like feeling powerless. When you get to choose a product you feel in control. Politics has reminded us over and over again that it's a charade and the real power is with the people who can buy it. Theirs is the consumerism which is destroying the world.
ReplyDeleteExcellent point Tamara, thank you for commenting. I was thinking that it is 'the world' not just America on the way to work today, so your comment could not have been anymore perfect of a response! Thanks, Jade
ReplyDeleteso true i hope one day we all get it...we blame everyone but ourselves for these dilemmas
