Unbound Snippet

Have you ever seen the movie Short Cuts?
One scene that truly hits home on what I am trying to say. The scene opens with a mother going to buy her son a birthday cake while he goes off to school. She goes to t a small bakery and orders it from the baker. The baker is a very intense guy and takes himself all too seriously. He meticulously prepares himself with all the details he needs to know. Meanwhile unbeknownst to us the next scene reveals the boy is walking to school when he gets hit by a car. He is able to stand up and is conscious, the driver (Lily Tomlin) gets out and she wants to take him to the hospital. The boy explains no and how his mother does not want him to talk to strangers and must go now.  Driver is worried and unsure, boy is hurt and in pain and goes home instead of to school. Mother is out most of the day and comes home to find her son home early. He explains he was hit by a car while she freaks out calls her husband, whereupon the father says to take him to the hospital immediately. The next day arrives and it is Casey's birthday and that over zealous baker wants his money for the cake he has made. He calls and calls again leaving  many annoying and harassing messages on the grievous parents answering machine.   Meanwhile back at the hospital we learn Casey ends has died on his  birthday, grieving tremendously, his parents arrive back home decidedly devastated.  The parents end up listening to their answering machine barraged by a multitude of nasty calls from the baker about their ungracious behavior for not picking up and paying for a cake they bloody well ordered! Seemingly going into a manic stage his next message simply states " the mighty Casey just struck out." and they where not getting the cake.  Unknowing the baker was all too sickeningly right but would he have said that if he knew, of course not. So, I stress to you, to think before speaking. We all have spoken unaware of the full complexity of someone else's story some are private about what they are going through. So just imagine if you will (as is true) you do not know what another is going through, and in that knowledge refrain from sarcasm and cruel retort, avoid joining in on a bitch fest to entertain others with cheap conversation, begin this to earn and learn  respect.  Many prophets, poets, song writers, and sages shape the way I think, as did that movie.  It made me really think about being more considerate, less critical, and more regardful towards those I may not even know.Time to end all the cheap and cruel words we human's deliver often and so easily without considering  repercussion, perhaps because it did not affect 'us' personally, no more it's time to stand up, grow up and find strength in implementing a new plan for social success.
