What are words?
Words are a powerful and provocative thing, used carelessly they have the power to kill, and used with great care they can bring one to the highest peaks of joy. The power of words is often looked upon with no regard by people who are rude or disrespectful. Honoring yourself and others in a respectable way is often seen in how competently we use our words. Your social status is often distinguished by how one uses there vocabulary. I have had an opportunity to observe this throughout my many years in sales and restaurants. In the beginning of my career in food serving, I worked at a place called 'The Rainbow's End' a vegetarian cafe and health food store in Las Vegas. The environment of Rainbows End was unlike any other place I would work again, the environment was healthy and joyous, it carried with it a certain magic I will never forget. It was one of the rare places where there was no backstabbing and gossiping, I mean after all we didn't even eat meat, it was a vegetarian place. Sure it wasn't always perfect and I recall one girl who didn't like me, but I had compassion when I learned she was from from Viet Nam and had a very challenging upbringing Although her heart was unyielding and her words cruel and however it pissed me off for a moment it would not last. 'The Rainbow's End' was a veritable Hodge podge of numerous souls bounding with energy and passion, health and vitality. I learned to live with Linda's stinging coldness and sharp tongued demands and I learned to love and accept what she was by knowing where she came from. It was another employee who shared what he knew of her past and I was quite grateful he did so, it was from a loving place. It taught me much about understanding as each day at that place did. I recall my awesome chef Elsie, everyone absolutely adored her food and they came from miles every time she worked, some days when we ran certain specials it was an absolute mad house, the many people that would pack into our small cafe in the Square. Now Elsie was the most prolific with her wisdom and each day a new lesson would be unfolding before my young clear eyes. One day I asked Elsie if she knew what it was that made her dishes better than any one else who prepared the same ingredients in the same way, she told me "Jade, it is because I cook with love, I add a dash to every dish, at least one." It made me smile and it answered all my questions to her cooking and so much more. Just do it with love, you don't have to love them, like Elsie she didn't add love to a dish cause she loved a certain customer, she put it in all her dishes'. I beg of you my friend to realise the power of your words and add a dash of love to all you do, from me, SmittyJade to you dear reader, give it a try!
